| Issue: # 3 | October/2007 |
If we cut our hand and it starts bleeding, our body tends to know how to heal itself. The body has a natural ability to regenerate itself using its own "Inner Physician." This month we examine this issue more closely with an interview with Dr. Sol Grazi, who explains how we limit our selves in ways that block the body natural healing mechanisms. We also look at how massage helps the body recover its natural healing ability.
The biggest lesson to learn is to never to let anyone discourage you from accessing the power you have inside yourself. No matter how our health is today, we have the power to change it for the better. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise!! Remember, you CAN be healthier. Feel Better and Be Happy...

Q: What role does massage play in the bodies natural healing?
A: The body holds in a lot of information, good and bad, and that's what prevents us from healing. After five years as a massage therapist, I've come to see that most people come for a massage treatment because they want a release from stress and pain (mostly muscle pain). They know that massage loosens up tight muscles and has a really relaxing effect.
Most people doze off and fall asleep at some point in an hour treatment. Even if the pain isn't completely gone by the end, an hour session helps take the edge off things and provides time for a person to relax and to consider the cause of the stress. Often, it only takes a few sessions to relieve chronic pain. Other times, it becomes clear that the person needs to address other issues such as exercise, nutrition, trauma, relationship issues, or a combination of some or all of them in order to find the relief he/she seeks.
It's our own responsibility to deal with the full range of health concerns, for the mind as well as the body. Working with a massage therapist is an important tool. It's very important when working with a massage therapist to choose a therapist that knows his/her limits and when to refer clients out to other health care professionals for help in these other areas. |
