Issue: # 4 January/2008

I am both excited and grateful to announce that my wife, Luli, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007.  Her name is Tali Miriam. Thank G-d both Mom and Baby are healthy!

I am also happy to announce that I not only have a wonderful new daughter, but I have moved my office out of my home to a beautiful and peaceful room downstairs in the same building.  There is still plenty of easy and free parking, and you no longer need to walk up 3 flights of stairs for a treatment.

I thought it would be fitting to say a few words about my experience with baby massage. And the Q&A is related to a question that many people ask me.

Remember, you CAN be healthier.

Feel Better and Be Happy...

Baby Massage

The best thing about massaging your baby is that it's the healthiest bonding experience with your infant. Giving healthy touch is so important and is so lacking these days.  It's really important that children receive healthy-loving touch!

My first piece of advice: don't wait to start giving your baby treatments/massages.  Once they start moving around it is almost impossible to give a nice session. My older daughter Chavi is 1 year and 8 months old and it is next to impossible to give her a treatment unless she's sleeping...but it is starting to get better.   Our new little daughter's first treatment was about 15 minutes or so after she was born.  I simply put one hand on her little head and the other hand on her butt/sacrum. I closed my eyes for a moment and pictured in my mind soft loving energy coming out of my hands, and then couldn't help myself but to lean over and give her a kiss.

For about 2-3 minutes with my hands at the head and sacrum, I followed her body wherever it seemed to want to move.   I then put one hand on her stomach and chest and the other hand supporting underneath.  My intention was just to feel the tissues move under my hands as they moved and softened. I held her feet and gave them a little rub and she seemed to love it.  She fell asleep after that.  I'm not sure who enjoyed the treatment more.

I've found the best time to give your baby a massage is right after a bath. Put some lotion or oil on them and do some soft gliding up the back.  You can use your fingers in a circular motion up and down the back and on the butt.  They love it!! And don't forget the stomach.  I've heard that circular clockwise strokes are the best.  This can help out with gas and stomach aches.

By the way, if there are any questions that you would like me to answer or a subject that I can write about or interview someone else about please let me know. And if you are someone that would like to be interviewed about a certain type of therapy/modality or healthy living ideas I would love to hear from you and include you in the newsletter.  Please e-mail me at: info@jerusalemmassage.com

Q & A

Q: Will I feel better after a single massage?

A: Yes and no.  Most often you will feel an immediate improvement for both physical and stress related problems.  Many clients, no matter what their problem or complaint, whether it is a common ailment such as a sore neck or tight back, or a more serious or chronic issue, will feel much improvement after only a single treatment.  However, some report that they do not immediately notice a significant improvement or difference.  If you are one of these clients, you are not alone.

On occasion it may take hours, even a day or more to become aware of the benefits of a session.  A client may walk out feeling that their issue is not improved, but be patient, by the next day most everyone feels improvement and recognizes significant benefits.

Nevertheless, we all know that sometimes life can be funny.  We must remember that most problems occur over time and that it just takes time to resolve them.  Physical problems, stress and other injuries to the body will sometimes require more than one massage.  The reason is simple: the positive effects of massage are also cumulative.  In other words, the more massage you get, the greater and more permanent the change and benefit.

It is very important for clients to realize that while a single session is significant, in order to address some problems a multiple course of massages will be required.  In these instances, a single session, no matter how powerful, will not be able to permanently resolve some conditions.  While you can very definitely get results from a single session, you will only get the maximum benefit from massage if you come in regularly.  That doesn't mean that you have to come in weekly.  Even a monthly or every six week treatment can be effective in turning massage into a regular part of your life.

When you decide to become a regular client please take advantage of our discounted series packages.  They are a great way to make your sessions more affordable per treatment.
